What is Ledger Live?

Ledger Live is the official desktop and mobile companion app for Ledger hardware wallets. It gives you a single, secure interface to view balances, send/receive crypto, manage apps and perform firmware updates — all while keeping keys offline on your Ledger device.
How Ledger Live login works
No email or server-side password
Unlike custodial services, Ledger Live doesn’t require an email/password to “log in.” Instead, access is granted by physically connecting and unlocking your Ledger hardware device (PIN) — your private keys never leave the device. This model reduces online attack vectors but makes your recovery phrase the ultimate backup.
Important security note
Any prompt or app asking for your 24-word recovery phrase is a scam. Never enter your recovery phrase into software or share it with anyone.
Step-by-step: Get started with Ledger Live
1. Download from the official site
Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger domain to avoid fake apps. Install the version for your OS (Windows/macOS/Linux) or mobile store listing.
2. Connect & unlock your device
Connect your Ledger device via USB (or via mobile with the cable/adapter), enter your PIN on the device and open Ledger Live. The app will detect the device and permit account management.
3. Install apps / add accounts
Use the Manager in Ledger Live to install blockchain apps on your device and add accounts to manage balances. Ledger Live will never ask for your 24-word phrase to operate normally.
Maintain security — practical tips
Keep firmware & app updated
Install Ledger Live updates and device OS updates promptly — updates can contain security fixes. When updating, follow official instructions and verify you downloaded Ledger Live from the official site.
Verify downloads & avoid fakes
Only use ledger.com and official stores (Google Play / Apple App Store). Fake Ledger apps and installers exist; they are a common attack vector. If an interface requests your seed, it is malicious.
Backup & Recovery
Write your recovery phrase on the recovery sheet during setup, store it offline and in multiple secure, separated locations if needed. Use the Recovery Check app on device to verify your backup without exposing the phrase to a computer.
